Wireless Computer Technology: Selection, Services, and Security
EWING,
NJ — February 23, 2005 — The latest wireless computer technology lets you easily connect and share a high-speed Internet connection with all of your computers. Public wireless Internet "hot spots" allow portable computers and hand-held devices to surf the web on-the-go, at an increasing number of locations.
On March 23, The Greater Mercer County Chamber of Commerce Technology Committee is hosting an informative Breakfast seminar, as part of the Chamber's Mercer Business Forum, entitled "Wireless Computer Technology: Selection, Services, and Security". Check-in begins at 7:45 AM at the Conference Center at Mercer County Community College in West Windsor, NJ.
This seminar will provide attendees with everything they need to know to get multiple computers connected, and how to surf the web "on the go". The cost of the seminar is $30 ($25 for Mercer Chamber members and students with school ID) and includes a continental breakfast and a chance to win a complete Linksys wireless network, valued at $200, courtesy of Office Depot in Lawrenceville.
The panel presentation will help attendees make educated purchasing decisions, separate truth from hype, and provide recommendations to connect reliably and securely using portable wireless computers. The agenda will cover:
- Creating a wireless network in a home or office setting
- Portable computer devices and accessing Internet hot-spots
- Important security precautions to protect your data and identity
The expert panel of presenters includes:
Michael Petriello, owner of multiple Geeks On Call® On-Site Computer Solutions franchises in the Greater Mercer County area
Arnold Rosner, Vice President, Strand Management Solutions, Inc., a New Jersey-based leader in custom software and database applications
George Ascione, President & CEO, LightHouse Hosting, LLC, a provider of full-service web hosting and secure networking solutions
For those unfamiliar with wireless computer technology, new equipment and lower prices has removed the barriers to where we can place computer equipment, used for business, communications, information and entertainment. It is now simple and efficient to connect computers and share high speed internet access, overcoming architectural obstacles and eliminating the costly and daunting task of running in-wall wiring. Whether you want to look up recipes on the Internet from the kitchen, or erase the tangle of wires creeping along the floor of your office, a large selection of reliable and affordable wireless connectivity solutions are lining up on retail shelves.
For people with wireless-equipped laptops and hand-held portable computer devices, more and more public places are providing wireless high-speed Internet connectivity, from coffee shops and restaurants, to book stores and hotels. The tech-savvy business person or web enthusiast has more ways and places to stay connected than ever before.
Continental breakfast and check-in for the presentation start at 7:45 AM, and the seminar will run from 8 to 9:30 AM. Seats are limited, so please register in advance at www.gmccc.com, or call 609-393-4143 for more details and availability.
The technology committee is chaired by Michael Miller, vice president of Set Now Solutions, specializing in custom web site design. Michael Miller can be contacted at 609-406-1665.
