Michael A. Miller, VP and Creative Director of Set Now Solutions and co-founder of CorpNote online Greeting Cards, Invitations and Surveys

Michael A. Miller has been designing interactive media since the advent of the personal computer, and created his first web image in 1995 using PhotoShop 2 on a Mac Quadra. A veteran of the video and multimedia industry, Mike quickly became addicted to finding ways to enhance the web experience. Limited by a top modem speed of 28.8 Kbps, Mike surmised that full-motion, full-screen video was impossible — at least for the time being. As a result, in 1997 Michael turned his video production techniques to a new product called Flash, which promised motion and sound on the web over dial-up connections.

Mike Miller also spent a tremendous amount of time surfing the web, since early computer applications required constant patches and updates to fix hardware, operating systems and "new and improved" software. These years taught him a lesson that would become the hallmark of his web design philosophy — web site navigation should be intuitive and efficient, so visitors can find what they need, enjoy the experience, and will continue to be a customer.

Michael Miller's portfolio of production skills includes 2- and 3-D graphics, animation, interactive multimedia, photography, and video/audio production. He is classically trained in piano and guitar, and his music compositions have been featured in various television, multimedia and web projects. His studio is currently equipped with a Korg Karma keyboard and Roland digital drums for music tracks and special effects, and a professional Pinnacle video editing system for creating streaming web content.

Recent Awards and Honors: In 2006, Mike was honored with a Board of Directors position for the Mercer Regional Chamber of Commerce. In 2004, Mike became the Chair of the Mercer Chamber's Technology Committee and also joined the Membership Committee.

Education: Michael received his B.S. in Television and Radio Communications from Ithaca College in 1985, with an emphasis in Advertising and Public Relations, and a minor in writing.

Business Background: Michael Miller's first job out of college was for a conference center as a photographer and video technician. He produced what was then called "multi-media" presentations, which were animated slide shows created by linking as many as 12 slide projectors together via primitive computer, and synchronizing them to a taped soundtrack. He then worked as an artist in the print industry, before becoming a shooter, editor, and producer in the corporate video sector.

When video editing went digital, Mike was one of the first to embrace the new technology. He continued to produce and edit video magazine stories, press (VNR) footage, training videos and corporate event highlights. His next career jump brought him to a video post-production studio where, in addition to animating and editing TV commercials and corporate video, he developed and programmed interactive multimedia, first for CD-ROM, and then for the web. In 1999, he left to join his wife Sarah, building Set Now Solutions to what they are today.

Business Favorites: Mike enjoys the variety of his responsibilities as an owner and Creative Director in a family-run business. "No two days are the same. Each project is like a new adventure."

Off-line: Mike shares Sarah Miller's enthusiasm for gardening, and considers it a great form of exercise. He also enjoys mountain biking, camping and giving Frisbee exhibitions with Clary. When the weather gets cold, Mike enjoys making furniture in his wood shop. His next shop project will be learning how to use a lathe that has been in Sarah's family since around 1920.

He currently enjoys collecting and playing guitars, digging worms with his 3 year old son Marshall and discussing ways the Internet is changing the world with Sarah.
